Default intake manifolds

Well i've done the basic part upgrades with a CAI, header, exhaust, hi-flo cat, and i've got a vtec controller. My problem now is i'm not sure what to get next. I don't have money for a turbo or anything and i'd love to get nitrous but i don't wanna chance frying my pistons or something. So i figured the next think i could possibly get would be an intake manifold. But i was told that an intake manifold really doesn't do anything unless you've got a turbo. I'd love to get the type r manifold but it won't fit correct? So i was thinking the Skunk2 Version. Its only about 350 or so . I was just wondering if they're worth getting if i don't have a turbo. If they are worth it then what kinda gains would i be getting and should i go with the Skunk 2 one since it seems like its the best buy? What about the Venom one? Any help or suggestions on anything would be great. Any suggestions on what else i could get next would be good too.

well put it this way if you get it now and then get a turbo later then it will be the same as gettin a turbo first and then gettin the manifold

If you're not doing a turbo right away... the Skunk2 would be your best bet. Its basically a type-r manifold, with the GS-R bolt pattern. Intake manifolds like the Venom, STR and Edelbrock have a huge plenum (where the air sits before it gets distributed... and short fat runners which are great for flowing tons of air. They're super for FI applications and all-motor when you're pushing some serious revs. The Skunk2 has longer runners and a smaller plenum which are better for torque and low rpm operation. Either way, you get to ditch the Intake Air Bypass Valve System which is a nice mess.

only thing i'm gonna add is this.....

make sure you know what you want to do. like stated before, if you're gonna go turbo, then the skunk2 probably will do you no good. in that case go with the victorx manifold.

Keep in mind that with the skunk2 manifold you will need a TypeR or B18B intake, because of the different mounting location.

I am not possitive, but I also think you need a ITR or LS throttle cable and throttle body due to mounting locations and how the GSR pulls the butterfly valve open compaired to the ITR.

You won't need a new throttle cable to use a Skunk2 manifold, and any manifold you change to will most likely require a new intake. At least the top half of one.

Or a bandsaw. Insteaad of adding piping, I had to take some piping out and turn my strut tower brace around backwards to clear the bov and throttle cable bracket. This was on the edelbrock manifold which moved the throttle body up and a little to the right.

i'm gonna go with the Type R manifold and then buy a Type R intake. Too bad the Type R intakes are so expenisve. The reason i'm deciding to do it that way is because i know someone that has a civic hatch with a b18c1 in it and he said one of the best gains he got was with the skunk2 manifold and he has the skunk 2 intake. But he said go with the Type R manifold because its just as good or better. Too bad now i gotta get rid of my AEM CAI for one that will fit to the Type R one.

The Type-R manifold won't fit your head. GS-R heads have bolts in different locations than the B16 and Type-R heads.
