Default Clogged cat?

I was driving my '95 GSR yesterday and noticed a HUGE loss in power when trying to accelerate. The car would shake and stutter before eventually 'kicking in'. The exhaust also made a "poof-poof POOF" sound while idling. It just has a clogged sound.

I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorrow, but i was hoping that somebody could give me a heads up on what was possibly wrong. Also while waiting at a stop light, the car idled at about 400 RPM's. This stuff just happened all of the sudden too.

wow that idle mustve been rough, yeah it sounds like the same issues my mom had with her escort, and it turnd out to be a clogged catalytic converter.

I'm having the same problem and it is the cat being clogged.

Thanks for the replies. I'm taking it in on Monday to have it looked at. I'm just hoping that it gets me there because it sounded like it wanted to die yesterday

Well, I took my 'teg to an exhaust place and the cat was as clean as can be. So I then went to a local mechanic and while he fiddled with the spark plug wires, the car died and it wouldn't restart. I didn't plan on leaving it there overnight, but I didn't exactly have a choice . This morning he called and it was fixed. The culprit, a dead ignition coil.

I don't know if these things take their time in dying or what, but this car seems to have a lot more umf than it did last week prior to the obvious problems. But alas, my 'teg is alive and well again and I am happy.
