i have a 98 rs and if i take my muffler off it sounds no different. its not a bad sound and it sounds like it is still restricted by something. i guess it might be my resonator but i think my cat is clogged. tell me what yall think. and the sound when my muffler is off is like deep and throaty and restricted sounding.

 

The primary sypmtomm of a clogged cat would not be a restricted sound. If you cat's clogged, you will lose a lot of power. A real lot of power. Example. if you take your cat off and it isn't clogged, chances are you wont ba able to feel much of a difference while driving... maybe a little, but not much. If your cat's clogged, and you do a test run without it, the difference will feel like you slapped a supercharger onto there.

But don't do anything more than a testrun around your block. Running around without a cat is borrible for the environment and a big, big fine if you're caught.

 

You can bang your cat with a pipe or wrench as well...if you hear the cat element inside rattling around, its toast.

well the main reason why i asked is becuase my exhaust sounds the same without a muffler. it sounds just like it has a muffler.
