A032R seem to last a long time. Longer than the Toyo. The only person I know who's driven both tyres on the track is Bryan, who had A032R on his car and Toyo RA-1 on my car.

He thinks the RA-1 are better. RA-1 last a long time for an R comp, but not as long as his A032R lasted.

I have also tried one set of Kumho R comps (the new kind, not Victoracers). They were fine while they lasted, but didn't last very long and (to me) did not appear to handle any better than the RA-1.

I have never had Hoosiers on my car.

Yes, according to the general consensus I found when I asked the same question in this topic a year ago.

Default george need your input on rims

do you think that an aftermarket rim such as the konig trouble in a 15x7 with the falken azenis in a 205 50 would be an improvement for the r or is the 15x6.5 stockers with the re010's be my best bet for a novice auto crosser?
I guess my concern is that the aftermarket rim will not have the proper offset.
Since the r is tuned to suit the car best in all areas. thanks!

Default rims and tires

I now have the stock rims with toyo proxies tpt and am told its an all season tire. I think they handle great so I am sure anything will be an improvement.
they were on the car when I bought it and are brand new. thanks again

No R compounds for N00bs.

If you get RA-1, and wad up your car, we told you so.

Honestly. Learn on street tires, they communicate MUCH better and are much safer.

How much experience would you veteran track guys recommend having before moving up to R compounds? I've done 8 autocrosses and an HPDE so far, and will have about 15 or so autocrosses and 2 HPDE's by the end of this year. I'm running Azenis now, but they will be spent by the end of this season. I'm just trying to decide if i should go with RA-1's next year or get another set of Azenis. I will be doing probably 10-15 autocrosses and 2-3 HPDE's per year, and the tires will be mounted on Enkei ES Tarmacs, 15x7.5" front and 15x7" rear. ( not that that likely matters)

I don't think there's any specific, hard and fast number but I would guesstimate maybe a minimum of 10-12 HPDE events, and maybe more.

Thanks for the caution on tire choice for nOOb track days. I have close to 20 autox's and 4 autox "practice days" so I was figuring on just using R-compounds like in autox. In D-stock last year I ran RA-1's (F)225 & (R)205 but this year I have been running on (F)225 victoracers & on the rear I have the 225 RA-1's from last year) all on stock size rims. I do get slight evidence of rubbing, but never any grinding noises (note: use 5 mm spacers on front).

For going to the track, I was going to get a set of RA-1's to put on 15x7's (43 offset) but wasn't sure about all 205, all 225 or (F)225 & (R)205. But now I think I will just try the 205 azenis's I have on my 15x7 street setup for the first event. Later on when I go with R-s, what sizes do you recommend?

One other thing, the stock size rims are 15x6JJ 50 offset, it is stamped right on the 01 gunmetal's.
