has he bought the pistons yet? If not, I'd recommend getting something else unless he's going to spray. You can go way higher than 10:1 safely. I'd recommend b16a pistons (or b16b pistons if you've got good gas in your area). Cheaper than aftermarket, and just as effective as anything for a mild lsvtec.

lsvtecs have been known to make up to ~220 hp and ~150 tq in streetable trim, but it will take more work than it looks like you and your buddy are doing at the moment.

He might have the pistons. As already mentioned, the rods won't work unless he also has some kind of B18C crank.
