Default Clutch adjustment?

Hi all.

I've noticed that my car won't start anymore with the clutch depressed all the way to the floor. It'll only start if its like 2cm off the floor.

What does this mean? My friends tell me that my clutch has worn down and I need to adjust the clutch or something.

Any thoughts?

Has the engagement changed at all? There should be a lock nut on the back of the pedal that allows a rod to be turned. This in turn affects the throw of the clutch pedal. It's a bit more complicated than that explanation, but that's the gist of it. If you've got access to Helm service manual, there's a diagram that explains the process.

Do you mean the starter won't run? Then you wanna adjust (or fix) the clutch interlock switch. Not the pushrod into the clutch master cylinder...

no the clutch engagement length seems to be the same but yes the starter wont run if I hold the clutch down all the way.

If you've got cruise control there's 2 switches above the clutch pedal. The lower one disengages cruise when you touch the clutch pedal. The upper one interlocks the starter circuit. If you don't have cruise, it's just got a stop bolt instead of the lower switch.

So what you're saying is that even with the clutch pedal pushed in, the car won't try to start, correct?

If that's so, I'd say that the switch on your pedal is bad as briefly stated above.

You can bypass that switch by just connecting the wires that run in and out of the switch, but I'd just replace the switch.

That is... if this is actually your problem.
