GS-R brake rotors
In answer to your first question, yes he is working you. What are you going to do with the car? You should do fine with stock type pads, but you will notice a significant improvement in stopping distances with upgraded pads. I have been happy with mine, but Hawk and AEM have fans too. You will pay more for hi perf pads, and they will make more brake dust, both of which were things I can live with. I did mine myself, it is straightforward and simple job, just tkaes a little time to get the rotors off
I actually just replaced my rotors and pads yesterday. AEM Hi-performance pads and brembo OEM rotors. The car was shaking violently when braking over 50 mph. New rotors and it brakes like a champ. I got my rotors at Smyth (Ohio) for $16 each for front and $15 for rear, pads I got off ebay for like $150 total.

On slotted and/or drilled rotors:
The slots or holes are there to get rid of gas that is released by the pad which can form a "bubble" between the pad and rotor which causes brake fade.
Generally speaking, the only kind of pads which have this problem are asbestos pads. Pretty much any modern pad isn't going to warrant the holes or slots. They do look kind of cool, but for the most part I'd save my money and get plain rotors.

Heh, you learn something new everyday. :wavey:
After that little insight, I think I might save some money next time I look for brakes.
