Default Car Starter

My car takes 5-10 turns of the key before it starts. I was told that it was probably the starter contacts. I proceeded to take out the starter, and I loosened the two long bolts attaching it to the block, but I didn't realize there was a wire attaching it to what I think is the solenoid. Do I need to take the solenoid off too, to get at the contacts? I don't know where the contacts are located. This is my first time doing this. I just don't want to pay $95/hr. for something I can do myself. Any answers?

Yes you need to unhook them off the starter in order to see the contacts. It may be just a dirty connection.

get a new starter i have the same problem my stepfather is a certified mechanic. I've had him look at it for me and he tells me i need a new starter. The longer you take to fix it the worst the problem becomes!
