Default Dissappointing time at the track :(

I've had my 5spd teg for about 2 months now and I decided to take it to the track...granted i've only been driving a stick for 2 months, I knew i wouldn't have great times. I got soooo nervous because i'd never done this before, and the car ahead of my run ran a 9.4 in the 1/4!!! So, without further adu, here are my 1/4 times. Please no flames, I'm new to this and made several mistakes on EVERY run:

1st Run vs. civic hatch, sohc vtec w/ turbo and nitrous:
R/T .871
60' 3.062
330 9.029
1/8 13.11 @ 61.6 mph
1000 16.49
1/4 19.322 @ 78.41

this was by far my worst run (duh) because it was my very first try and i basically dropped it waaay to high and then shifted straight into third to overcorrect, which caused it to drop to like 3.5k rpm (BAH!). I learned from this, but still sucked.

2nd Run vs. civic hatch, b16a
R/T 1.052
60' 2.689
330 7.25
1/8 10.969 @ 65.84 mph
1000 14.178
1/4 16.89 @ 82.44

believe it or not, this was my best run! bah, i know it sucks.

3rd Run vs. old Ford Escort GT
R/T 1.685
60' 3.047
330 7.956
1/8 11.464 @ 62.24
1000 14.809
1/4 17.581 @ 81.58

story on the R/T and the 60'. Stupid me not knowing the rules of the track, I thought I went to far, so I put it in reverse. All of a sudden I see the green light and I'm like NOOOOOOO!!!!

4th Run vs. old VW scirocco
R/T .793
60' 2.662
330 7.257
1/8 11.039 @ 64.73
1000 14.288
1/4 17.008 @82.91

I think what I need to work on most is my R/T and how to launch. After that I'm ok. Its just that first part that makes or breaks the entire run.

Please offer advice to a beginner. Anything is welcome.

-Ryan, 92 GS.

No.
What you need to work on is your 60' time.
You want that as low as possible, which means you're hooking up and moving down the track.

Your time should'nt start until your tires cross the first line (past staging), so you can have a 10 minute R/T and still run a 13 second 1/4th.

Focus on not spinning.

you'll get better just keep practicing and dont worry about R/T....get a grip, hook up and get rolling as fast and with as low spin as possible.

dude i drove on of those sticks for a while and now i purchased a newer teg (98) and i think the newer one is alot harder to launch due to the torque loss in it but i guess its just one of those thing i gotta learn to deal with but my times arent much better (16.4) so it kinda pisses me off a lil

Even with a better 60ft, which you really need, those are still some pretty low trap speeds. Whats your setup exactly? Has it been tuned?

Valve adjust dat bish

From what I've seen, in the 1/4 mile world, you'll tend to end up being dissapointed (why didn't my intake drop my time by this much, I paid $5 Gs for this turbo and I still can't break 13's, blah blah blah). Once you drop your 60' time to a reasonable level you should be good to go, but don't worry if you can't break 15's etc. etc. There's only so much straight-line speed you can expect out of a front-driver 4-banger.

completely stock 92 GS. I haven't tuned it, and its been almost 5k miles since an oil change (just got back from long road trip and didn't have the money to do it yet). I also had about 3/4 of a full tank of gas.

Nothing. I have been driving a stick for about 2 months and I barely know anything about launching. I'm sure I can get my times lower, but I just need to get used to launching and finding a rythm that I like.
