i love a good oil thread..

I have been running castrol syntec blend since we put the motor in and have yet to burn a drop.. even after 2 days at VIR full and about 30 hours of highway driving..

 

Castrol Syntec 0W-30, "real" synthetic (the made in germany stuff).

Burns 1/2 qt per track weekend, hardly any on the street.

 

Your car shouldn't be burning oil. Maybe there is a leak somewhere. Do you use the same washer each time your put the oil plug back. You must use a different one, and it costs about 15 cents.

 

The original poster is talking specifically about burning oil.

You are correct, we should replace the washer, but I am not sure how that could contribute to the original poster's problem.

 

Many perfectly healthy ITR's actually do consume (not leak) a certain amount of oil.

 

I changed to valvoline 2 weeks ago-there is less black on my bumper and also have not lost a drop yet. If it was still mobil one I would have already lost 1/4 quart.

 

Well Friday after work I did an oil change and went back to Moble 1 oil but am trying the 15-50, so far the only thing I noticed was the car takes alittle bit longer to warm up other then that nothing.

I'll be sure to give updates on my consumpsion with this weight.

 

I really think I'm leaking oil through my Orings. I'm changing to spoon pistons, and I'll post any different results in oil burning.. I'm burning about 1quart every 1,800miles...
Heavy soot on the rear bumper.. Lets see..I'm using the Mobil 1 15-50....

1 quart in 1500 miles is within specification. it is just the way engines equipped with VTEC work.

 

What the hell does VTEC have to do with it?
