Default Power antenna question

The power antenna on my 00 GS-R goes 'pop, pop, pop' every time it goes up or down. It always happens at the end of the travel, like the motor is running longer that it should. It fully extends and retracts. The problem comes and goes. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Scott

I had the same problem. Ultimately, the plastic drive "strip" attached to the radio antenna snapped right above the drive gear, internal to the power antenna assembly.
I have a feeling your antenna is getting ready to do the same thing.

When I fixed mine, I took my dead antenna and fabricated a "plug" that for all intensive purposes, looks like a properly retracted antenna from outside. [I still get decent AM reception, for traffic emergencies.][ I hardly ever listen to radio]

In the long run, I'll either do an S2K antenna conversion, or have the hole shaved and filled when I touch up the paintwork in a few years. h:

almost every honda or acura with a power antenna seems to do this eventually. All I did with mine was unplug the antenna motor. doesn't move up and down but doesn't embariss the shit out of me either.

Thanks for the help.

Does anyone make a fixed antenna? I think i've seen some stubby ones on other cars.

You can install an antenna from an S2000 with relatively little fuss. Do a search for "s2k antenna" or "s2000 antenna" and you should find plenty of info about it.

actually....i've come to realize that the "pop, pop, pop" is actually the motor retracting, then locking the mast so it can't be pulled up manually to be vandalized or something. mine has done that since i bought it (3 years ago) and the antenna hasn't failed yet.

Yeah, there is a little bit of clicking that goes on when the antenna goes up and down.

However when the thing breaks, it tends to make a much louder, repetitive noise after the mast is securely in its up or down position.

I know that's not very descriptive, but there is a difference.

ya man, that's my biggest annoyance for hondas. that stupid antenna is a pain. I had a 90 Accord and currently a 96 Teg and they all do that after awhile. Unplug the motor or swap it with a stubby one.

I guess Honda have finally learn their power antennas are more trouble then its worth cause my 01' 1.7 EL doesn't even have an antenna. Weird...
