Default Replace main relay

I am thinking of buying the mainrelay and then taking it to the mechanic to be replaced. Is it going to be easy for the average mechanic to replace the main relay? Do they do this often?

It should take a novice about 15 minutes with a single wrench. It should take a pro maybe 5 minutes.

On my 92RS, it was an easy swap, 2 phillips screws to remove the driver's side kick panel and the relay is right behind it. Better to take 10 minutes in your driveway than to take longer going to the mechanic. Good luck.

The main relay just snaps in place? There is no wires to connect? If that's the case, then good. Thanks.

It's held in by a single bolt, if i remember correctly, and you have to detatch a small wire harness from it. That about sums it up.

Do you need to detach the battery first before replacing the main relay?

its best to do so with any kind of electrical related work. so, yes, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

It's not a big deal, you don't have to disconnect the - terminal. I had to change my relay quite a few times to diagnose a certain problem. You just need a 10mm to get it off the bracket and some fingernails to unclip it.
