New R Competition ;)
Got the new Car & Driver yesterday. It had 5 drop tops (TT, Z4, 350Z, Boxter, & S2K) on the cover. One of the articles was about the new Subaru Forrester XT. I was just scanning through it and noticed it had the new 2.5L detuned STi motor in it with only 210 hp. Well I check out the acceleration numbers and it pulls a 5.3 0-60 and 13.7 1/4 mile. OUCH!!! That's damn fast for a mini-bus. It's a total sleeper, so beware!!!
It's the torque curve and final drive that make it a screamer. Better torque curve (to a point) than the STi and much shorter final drive. The STi was published with a 3.90 while the XT with a 4.44. Those two factors let it get out of the hole quick. Trap speed was a (yawning) 97mph so it's clearly losing steam fast at speed, but the torque curve and gearing really help accerlation at low speeds and aid the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.
btw-I think published weight was at or aroudn 3200 (very close to the STi).

Are you sure you read that properly? No 3200-lb. car is going to get sub 6-second 0-60 times or run 13s in the 1/4-mile with only 210 hp no matter how aggressive the torque curve or gearing. I'll bet my life savings on that... all $52 and change :P
