I know everyone wants to get the coolest pics they can for their avatars, but PLEASE, limit them on size. I've noticed that some people have really big avitars that take up a good portion of the screen making posts difficult to read, not to mention for all our 56K users, will take a really long time to load...If anyone needs web space for their avitar, or has any questions, let me know.

Thanks guys,
Aj

Do we have any rules governing the content of an avatar?

I'd say as long as it's nothing profane, obscene, or vulgar, pretty much anything goes. This is a case where you should use your best judgment...

At some point, we might find ourselves having to better define what's vulgar or profane.

For example, many women would find the use of a woman in a sexually provocative pose in an avatar as a "profane" thing or otherwise offensive, but one of our own moderators is using such an avatar.

Although we're not at that stage right now, it might be better to define these things ahead of the complaints and issues.

And as you and I have already proved, one person's best judgment could be very far off from another person's best judgment.

I would agree that there should be some set of basic ground rules: no nudity, no coarse language, nothing racist, no bigotries, or anti-Semitic commentary; and I stress those last three, anyone caught making any comments referring to someone else’s race, religion, or nationality whether it’s in an avatar or otherwise, will be banned, at least from the forum that I moderate!!

In the case of Erik's Avatar, I would agree that it’s walking a fine line, but I also think that anything that could be seen in an issue of Import Tuner should be ok; though I do say that with some reservation. On the same token, far be it for me to say what offends people, I just propose to leave it open for discussion. If someone else’s avatar bothers anyone, we'll simply ask him or her to remove it, or do it for them.

We all spend a lot of time on the forum, and it should not be any less enjoyable for anyone, especially not over something as ridiculous as an avatar. So if anyone has any input, or has some suggestions, please let us know, and we’ll work on it.

On a side note, please, if you are planning on asking someone to change or remove their avatar, PLEASE, do it privately, either via a PM or email.

Thanks guys,
Aj

Why can't I add an avitar in my profile any more? I remember the option being there last time I visited....is this some kind of bug or do I have to reach a certain level of posts now?

The avatar control panel ought to be at the bottom of your profile.

Is it not there?

It isn't there because I had to turn it off since Talon has a 640x480 pixle avatar. I have yet to figure out how to limit pictures brought in by links but if we can't keep pictures small then we won't have linsk available.

Note that this is a very temporary solution, cause it's gonna be a lot of work till you can figure it out. But, if you want, have anyone who has an avatar that's too big, email me the link, and I'll reduce it, and put it up on my webspace until we can get it all resolved. I've only seen one person with that big of a avatar, that's why I put up that sticky in the main discussion forum.

Any way, let me know Trey?

Later,
Aj
