I have had my eye on the Type R for only a short while now, I have been into the MKIV Supra and was about to buy it in a bit of time from now but I then decided to go with a ITR and I only know a little about the car so lets hear how great it is. So far I know that

-great handling
-195hp
-high theft rate
-fairly economical
-nice acceleration
-cheap compared to other sportcars (i sorda consider the ITR a sports car on its own class)

You also have to add that it's a rare car that not everyone can have.

Theft rate is definately a turn off though. The overall balance of the car is just amazing though.

If you can still find one that is well maintained, jump on it.
If you plan to use it on the track, in stock form it is hard to beat, even at twice the price.

It's outright speed is not i's force but how hard you can enter and exit turns is outrageous!
It is also the most forgiving car I ever drove.
Enjoy!!!

I had a 00' Type R, and I really loved the car. I sold it in April and bought a Subaru WRX in May (and just sold that!). The WRX is pretty sweet. The turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive are impressive. But honestly, I liked my Type R more. It may not have been as quick as the WRX in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile, but I enjoyed it more for a few reasons: Very rare car (I was known all over town as the guy with the Yellow Type R), economical (even with my driving, I still got about 24-25mpg), good handling (for a front-wheel drive car, it really does handle well), Acura quality and warranty (never had a problem) and my insurance was a bit lower (but I am 27 w/ no tix or accidents - knock on wood).

If you have a chance to get one at a good price and it's in good condition, I'd say go for it. Personally, I want another type R, but I'm waiting for the arrival of the RSX Type R. Until then, I'll be saving my pennies!

I love my Type-R but the theft rate does suck @$$. (I bought mine used, with a salvaged title...it was stolen before, but all that was taken out of the car were the seats. Luckily, the dealer whom I bought the car from hunted down Type-R's, and got some out of a 2000 (totally wrecked) and put them in my '98 before I bought it). Aside from the theft rate, you'll also have to deal with people trying to steal your spoiler (mine's been stolen, and I have a cheaper $200 Nopi one now (y'know, the one with the Red LED)), people stealing your Acura Emblems (authentic ones from Acura cost $68 ea., but u can get the the rip off one's for $20), people keying off the Type-R logos, and at the same time, actually worrying about people trying to steal your car. Just be careful where you park it, I guess, and I suggest getting all the secruities you can...i.e. Autoloc, Club, Alarm, Engine kill, and take the ECU out of your car, if you're going to leave it somewhere for a long time.

True story, my friend's 98 Type R was stolen, by having another car get behind it, and push it to a near by garage. Advice...when parked on the street, turn your wheels all the way toward the curb, to prevent it from being pushed somewhere.

well i totally agree that R is rare car, and the handling is the "sh$t" !!! also most of R owners are knowledgeable hahah.. and if i'm the one who's selling my R i won't sell it to someone that knows nothing about it.

no matter what other car I drive I always miss the R. Driving it all the time I kind of forget how much fun it is to drive. Once I drive around in another car for a few days (no matter the car) I miss the R so much.
