Tobra has sound advice. I agree with him.

To be absolutely blunt, a "mechanic" who can't diagnose the problem, gets frustrated easily and doesn't communicate honestly with his customers should find another line of work. Short of purchasing a used transmission and installing it -- at no additional cost to you, I'd refuse to let him touch the car. h:

I certainly hope you have documentation of all of this; the work order, your reciepts and notes about the faliure to correct the inital problem. IMHO, you should not be doing his work in trying to diagnose this problem. You've paid dearly for his services already - you are entitled to a properly functioning car. It seems to me that this "mechanic" is incapable of doing that.

Unless he scares easily, the time is coming to [litigously] lock and load..

It probably won't come to a law suit. This guy is known for his honesty actually. When I take the car back I want to be able to say something like, "I think this is the problem", and maybe when I mention a certain part of the car, something will click in his head right away and he will say something like "oh yea, im sure thats it" and he wont feel so bad about not knowing what it is right away. Im just trying to get some advice from you more knowledgeable people about my car. Some car problems are more difficult than others, even for mechanics. So you say the shift solenoid...

Well, it's admirable of you to help him out... and if you've developed a measure of trust in him, then I sincerely wish you the best of luck. Confrontations are never fun.

Given that I can't actually see the car, that this is the internet after all, I am going to use the process of elimination and say that it's likely some mechanical failure inside the transmission that involves the clutch bands. I honestly don't know whether the problem is mechanical, electrical or both.

Best of luck.
