Plain old 10W-30 motor oil is known to work well in Honda gearboxes; hell Honda even used to specify that's all you needed to put in there. Honda MTF is essentially the same thing but with some particular additives. Red Line MTL is another fluid worth checking out as well, although it's a bit more expensive than the Honda or GM stuff.

I used 10w30 in my manual whne i decided to change the fluid. The car started shifting alot harder than usual, So I flushed out the 10w 30 and put in honda MTF. the honda stuff isnt the same, ITs alot thinnner, and doesnt smell like motor oil. In anycase my car is shifting again like it was before!! (even the owners manual states using 10w30, but Honda MTF is different/better)

I wouldn't put ANY GM product in a Honda/Acura. I thought the old manuals used to say 5w-30 on the manuals(I could be wrong) I was reading that Honda MTF has additives to reduce friction and reduce noise/vibration. It's up to you I've used redline MTF too, It's ok. My Hondas all run Honda MTF. I'm with the idea that Honda Knows what they are talking about, why risk a problem?

many of the members from the board that you named yourself after seem to think different.

Hmm, ok I never named myself after any boards, lol I was a honda technician in 02 when I joined. Sorry to bust your bubble... I care what other "members" of a board think. I work on these cars for a living so I tend to listen to Honda.
Maybe those ppl should pool their money and start their own car company if Honda is wrong, I'm sure ppl will line up for a chance to buy the first model :jerkit:

It's just my opinion. I form my opinions on first hand knowledge, my experience and my factory honda training, sorry if it doesn't agree with with yours. Ask any real Honda or acura technician and they will agree. My comment wasn't posted to slam your opinion or anything like that, apparently ppl are getting butthurt as usual when someone doesn't agree with someone on this forum.

ok ok.. enough of this. hondatech, i figured you had named yourself after www.honda-tech.com. my mistake.

anyhow, many, many honda owners have used GM synchromesh with no problems whatsoever. in fact, as far as i know, it has only received praise. that said, i think your aversion to it is unwarranted.

That's cool i never went to the site, maybe I will check it out when I have time. Sorry if it works great but I'm not gonna try it in my Hondas. That's all i'm saying, Honda expressly says to use only Honda MTF and that's it. It works great and I see no need to switch to something not designed for a Honda. If your transmission grinds or makes noise or something it needs to be taken apart and fixed, no fluid is gonna fix it.
