Default Compression Question

What would be the highest compression ratio u can run on a 96 GS-R, but still keeping it streetable at 91 octane gas? And what pistons would u recommend to do the job?
Thanks,
Matt

I don't think I'd go much over the stock compression with 91 octane gas

check out the endyn pistons

You could very safely upgrade to stock Type R pistons, etc. That would bump up the compression a bit.

That's a 10.5:1, that should probably be fine, but up it to premium if you get detonation

What do u think about the JDM ITR pistons with a compression ratio of 11.1? Is that too high or would that probably be the limit for a 91 octane street Naturally Asperated GS-R

I run 93 right now anyway, I definitely would running 11.0:1

Your engine does have knock sensors that will retard the timing if you have detonation, you might want to talk to someone with specific experience, general rule of thumb is 11:1 is the top end of what you can run on pump gas

But I'm from the muscle car camp, I'm new to imports

I've seen as high as 12.0:1 on 91 octane gas, however that's on a properly tuned engine. IMO I wouldn't go that high...JDM ITR pistons are good enough. Or JE Pistions with the same CR.

With proper tuning you can go to around 12:1, maybe slightly over on 91 octane.
