yes they have different bases. The picture below just shows the connectors. The bases in the actual headlight housing also match up differently...

Just wanted to give an update..
I went to PepBoys last night on a break from work and picked
up the 9004 SilverStar's. I'm not sure if anyone was paying
attention but this past Sunday's paper had a PepBoys ad in it.
The ad has a special of a twin pack (yes, 2 bulbs) of SilverStar's
for $16.88 + a $5 mail in rebate. Yes, you read that correctly.
My local ad can be found here:. Make sure you check yours.

And yes, you can save the image and print the image directly if
you can't find the ad. I did that, went to the store and explained
I got the ad from their site. They said it was a misprint and apologized
for any inconvience. I got pretty pissed off and said something to the
effect of "I drove all the way here for this!?". The manager came up
and apparently felt bad and honored the coupon.
Goes to show a little b*tching can save you money.

Nice Find!!!

*UPDATE*
Just purchased the 9005 SilverStars for my teg. I had no problems, looked like I wasn't the only one who came in with that coupon.
So I already have 9005 Piaa Extreme whites (9005 converstion in 9006 socket) I did a comparison and wasn't able to see any difference head on and on the wall. So I left the Piaa in the headlights and the SliverStars in the highs. Just for your information.
