Default lowering... is it really worth it?

i think i already know the answer to this question but i have a few friends yappin about how upgrading their springs and struts didnt change the handling of their cars..... it has me second guessing where to put my money....

i was looking into the tokico illumina set (springs and struts) or the tokico performance kit (springs and struts) my friend can get either kit for a good price...

what is the general concensus around here?

Sorry for using your thread, but i didnt want to start another thread because its just useless.

If i were to keep my stock 15" rims, and drop it about 1.5"-1.8", about how much of a gap would be left, would it change the stance of my car a lot and make it more aggressive? I know that dropping a car about that much with 16's or 17's would be a bit bumpy, but what about on 15's?

Also, What setup is best for ride comfort, I really only do autocross about once a blue moon, its mostly for commuting. I am looking into the H&R Sport Setup with the KYB-AGXS.

It will definetly change how the car handles and rides. Maybe there is not a big difference with the setup that you mentioned because I have not heard many good things about that setup and a few people on here had it and got rid of it. I would look into a different setup like H&R srings and KYB AGX shocks.

I could tell a huge difference from stock suspension to aftermarket. I got the tokico illumina shocks and i love them. I got coilovers also and I love the way it handles.

unless you go all out, the handling wont really change too much.
In my opinion, lowering the car is more for looks. DOnt get me wrong, if you get good springs, with better shocks, and roll bars, it will change the handling.

I have coil overs on my integra, and I must admit the ride is stiff, but it sure does look good

ohh yeah it changes it but there is still a finger or 2 gap there let me show you.

This is 1.8" on my 2001 GSR, with eibach coilovers and tokico blues

the answers were mostly what i expected... im planning on upgrading my swaybars and adding a gs-r strut tower bar up front, maybe a stb for the rear later on. thanks for your help guys.

oh yeah, bonzo, in response to your H&R recomendation, i was gonna get some H&R sports but im not all about that stupid 1.75f 1.5R change, i kinda want to go with something that lowers by the same amount.

Most spring kits come with a lower front because the front has more gap than the back in stock form. The lowering kit helps even it out somewhat although from what I've seen you usually still have a wider gap in front even with a drop.

This is my car with a 2.25 front and 2 rear drop.

and stock
