Default Type R distributor failures?

My 98 ITR will be six years old in three months.Hard to believe, seems like I was just drooling over the show model at the L.A. Auto show in '97!Anyway,it has about 40,000 miles on it and has been a very reliable daily driver.Except at about 24,000 miles,it crapped out on me while driving.Turned out to be a faulty distributor. Now again, a few weeks ago,it wouldn't start.Replaced the ignitor/module in the distributor and all is good.Just curious, has anybody had similar experiences?
Overall,the car rocks!

I've seen a ton of odd distributor issues.

My roommate got a swap shipped to him last spring, a JDM ITR engine. There was a screw out of place (yet still tighened, i have no idea how!) that cause the car to just die, and die at all the wrong times.

Other times I have seen faulty rotors in the distributor, and things like that. It's possible you've just had bad luck with faulty parts, I'm not sure. But it is fairly commonplace to have some distributor issues.

I'm not sure, but we've had some really odd distributor issues in the past. All were 'stumpers' where we had no idea what was going on. Usually it was something easy to replace/fix, but hard to diagnose. Hopefully these issues are few and far between, I dont wish that upon anyone.

Yes,very hard to diagnose. With a no start problem, the basic things that are checked are does it have fuel and spark. It had both,so he had to end up testing everything, which took 2 days!At least now my baby is purring again to 8500RPM!
