Default Door handle lights

So I was on the freeway the other day and I saw this car with a blueish-white light shining from the door handle down onto just below the handle. has anyone seen this if so what lights are used and what has to be done for this?

You could use a low amperage, high output LED, but in order to install such a light, the amount of fabrication work would be nuts. It would require drilling a hole in the back of the door latch assembly, bracing it, doing the requisite wiring and making it weather-proof, etc.

I suppose one could use a switched relay of an alarm to activate and de-activate the lights, but my honest advice would be to leave well enough alone.

I could see this project taking a fair bit of time and money, and that's assuming nothing is broken in the process.

86-91 RX-7 GXL's had lighted key holes, but that's the closest thing I can even think of, but even those are off while driving.

Maybe some one found a new use for those silly little windshield washer lights.

I've actually seen someone drill holes on their [G3] hood, just so they could accomodate those lights. h:
