I've had my Type-R for two weeks now (I'll post pics soon). But I'm starting to get worried about the cold-air giving my engine water-lock. Am I over-reacting? I dont plan on driving it in rain much, especially if its pouring. And in winter, itll be driven MINIMALLY. Some questions I came up w/:

1). If I wash it, do I have to be careful about how much water I spray on the hood area?
2). The original question, how hard is it to put on a bypass valve?


Any advice would be helpful..thanx guys and gals.

 

No, washing it will not affect a cold-air setup. You literally have to submerge the filter in standing water for it to go up your intake. It's the exact same affect as sucking water through a straw. But all it takes is enough inches of water to go up to your bumper for you to be hosed (almost found this out the hard way with my Eclipse; had AEM cold-air but bypass valve worked like a charm and cut my engine out).

It's not easy to do with the ITR AEM intake, though. As you already know, since it's a single piece of pipe, you will have to cut the pipe in half... which leads to an even poorer fit

 

Its cake man. Pull the pipe and use the template to cut it. Slice off the 1.5inches or so of piping, and reinstall with the BPV. Not hard at all.

When you wash it, just dont spray the valve directly, or cover it with a plastic bag or something if youre worried.

Thanks for the input, newgsrdriver. I hadn't considered cutting a comparable sized section of pipe off the intake for better fit.
