Default How easy it is to replace air filter and fuel filter

All i know is price for a full tune up is around $400 bucks.

my car has 70 k miles on it today, I replace spark plugs, changed rear brakes and replaced all the Fluid at an auto shop. that costed me 350 already, if i want to do the full tune up, it will be more than 650 bucks.

i think only think i am missing is the air and fuel filter.. anyone know it is easy to do it myself? the manual says i should replace those filters every 30k miles.

they are charge so much that it really scare me.

-They seem to be charging alot but thats because their flat rate charge is high.
-Changing your air filter is really easy.
-The fuel filter, you have to know what you are doing since fuel injected lines are under really high pressure (40psi) and will spray fuel. You don't need to change your fuel filter yet, unless you noticing a delay in thottle response.
-Go get a repair manual from your library.

It's inside the air box. The air box is that big black plastic box attatched to the pipe that runs into your engine. Really easy to spot. Pop the top off, replace the filter and you're done.

Even though the piping and filter isnt stock here, the filter box is. Its that rectangular black box. There's three phillips head screws that loosen (but dont come out) up to a certain point. If you have them, an 8mm socket and an extension works much easier. There's one on each side, and one in the front. Loosen those until they are done unthreading, and pop off the top.

air filter replacement is really easy. take out the old one, put in the new one.

fuel filter is a little bit more tricky. since the lines are under pressure, you cant exactly unscrew the filter. one thing you can do is pull the fuel filter fuse. then turn on the engine. it should run, then studder, then die. crank it a few more times. then all the fuel should be out of the lines.

then take the filter off...be aware that fuel will spill out..so have a cloth ready.

*i think that should be it.

Both are very easy.

In terms of the fuel filter....it doesnt really SPRAY out, thats kind of an exxageration. Relieve pressure by unscrewing the gas cap, thats all.
