Default Question about GSR

i was wondering if a 94 GSR with only 72,000 is worth 8k...the only big thing is something with the transmission...it is leaking fluid and i was told by the family friend (mechanic) that the cost would be 500 dollars to fix. i was just wondering if i can talk the guy down to 7500 would it really be worth it to buy and fix the car?

$500 is quite a steep price. I think you should find out what exactly the problem is and get a second opinion. 8k seems about right considering the car is almost ten years old and hasn't passed the 100k mark.

do they have to fill the tranny with fluid? How does the car drive? Does it shift smoothly like you would expect it to? 500 to fix? What is he fixing?

Ask questions now, before you have a 8,000$ problem on your hands later.

Find out for sure what the problem is. If you are really interested in it, bring it to a mechanic and have it checked out. That is a good price. Get it lowered to 7500 and you'll be set if the problem isn't a major one like needing a whole new tranny.

well the tranny was leaking fluid and seeing as it is only at the 72k mark it shouldn't be happening...also cams were leaking...i think the 500 dollars is to reseal the transmission if only that....clutch may be worn but i have no idea....all i saw was the transmission leaking as well as the cam...the mechanic owns his own shop and is a family friend...he was giving his honest opinion because my father wasn't there and he also reported the same thing to my father over the cell phone...so that seems to be the biggest problem...

Cam seals are notorious for leaking. Need to install my new one. had it sitting for a few months. I wouldnt get it. Leaky tranny sounds bad.
