Default License plate noob question

Here's a real noob question: How do I get my license plate off? Do I need to remove the entire front clip to get at nuts holding the bolts on? What about the back? I keep turning and the bolts keep spinning but nothing happens!

Front or back plate? Sounds like the bolts were over torqued, and have no thread. See if you can find something very thin to work behind the head of each bolt and pull it out just enough to wear the threads catch and it unscrews.

Are the bolts just screwed into the fiberglass? Yeah, front and back!

there should be threads there. but if they are stripped out, the bolts are going to need some encouragement to catch some of the threads.

why are u taking the plates off in the first place?

if it's on the front the threads are actualy in a small peice of sheet metal which is placed within the 5 mph foam bumper, and if they are over tighted it will actualy tear up the foam and the threaded sheet metal will just spin, i had to cut the bolts out of mine on the front with a cut off wheel. the back shouldn't have any problem

Can you get a pair of vice grips on the bolts coming from straight down on top so you can pull on the bolt as you slowly turn it. All it needs to do is catch one good thread and you are in business.

I had to do this on the bolts on the underside of my car for my front bumper.

it's possible but doubtful. the sheet metal(nuts) are just short enough to where if you turn it the will spin around and around, if they were a little longer it would get caught on the slope of the nose. you might get lucky enough to shove a center punch or screw driver in the hole right beside the screw in question to hold the other end of the sheet metal(nut) to keep it from turning, i tried but it was stretching the bolt holes from where i was putting to much torque on the plastic

The sheet metal thing makes sense. It does sound like there's some kind of metal spining around. I thought it was a nut, but I guess it's a plate.

I'm trying to put on acrylic plate protectors.

I'm gonna try the vice grip thing and pull as I'm turning to hold the plate in place against the inside of the fiberglass.

I might cut the bolts though. They're rusty.
