The sheet metal thing makes sense. It does sound like there's some kind of metal spining around. I thought it was a nut, but I guess it's a plate.

I'm trying to put on acrylic plate protectors.

I'm gonna try the vice grip thing and pull as I'm turning to hold the plate in place against the inside of the fiberglass.

I might cut the bolts though. They're rusty.
