Default best way to shift

i just want to hear from all the racers out there, which is the best way to shift?

i know that powershifting isnt good and it doesnt give that much of a time advantage.

sometimes when i shift hard and fast into 2nd, the whole front end of my car jumps and doesnt chirp. im not too sure if thats good

but sometimes when i redline and shift a little slower and smoother my tires just chirp.

i've had a similar experience. I think about it this way. Dont focus on shifting speed, think about transitioning from gear to gear smoothly and harmoniously. It just works better that way. You still should try to shift quickly but dont throw it into gear so hard that you might snap off the shift knob. Kay?

remember to push the clutch to the floor as fast as possible to avoid grindage in fast shifting.

Why are you trying to create a chirp? What good will that do? The best way to shift your car depends on your modifications. To get in depth, you should first have your car tuned with the modifications you currently have. Then take your dynograph and determine what RPM range you are experiencing the most power. Now do some testing and determine where your RPM end up after shifting at increments of 500 RPM. Start around 6500 RPM and go up. Now, with that information in hand, compare your rpms to your power range. That will determine what the best RPM is that you should shift at that will put you in the most favorable spot for maximum power as each gear progresses. Do this for each gear!

That's not 100% true, from what i am told. Lets say you have 140hp at 5500rpm and a redline of 6500rpm. The lower gears have a high gear ratios, so shifting early just drops you lower in the next gear's rev ban, which will have a lower gear ratio than the last gear. Example, 1st- 6500rpm upshift into 2nd 5500rpm, instead of 5500rpm upshift into 2nd 4500rpm. In higher gears, shifting to early like 4th to 5th(a overdrive gear) will cause your car not to accelarate due to drag unless u have the torque to overcome it.

THEN AGAIN: I could be wrong, i never claim to know anything.

usually a basically stock car will like shifting at the redline. other then that say for instance if you have turbo you might want to use the beginning part of the full boost power band for third gear to get the longest pull out of your best gear.
