Default Is adjusint valves hard?

I heard that if you had a special tool you can adjust your own valves rather than pay 120 at ACURA. Does anyone know what tool this is or diagram on how to do it?

you can get the tool from snap on. it is a screw driver and socket all in one.

when adjusting valves you use the flat head screw driver to adjust the valves. The place you put the flat head screw driver to is in the middle of a bolt. The screw driver goes in the middle, and the socket goes around the outside. You have to hold the screw driver tight to keep the bolt from adjust even more when you are tightening up the bolt.

it's fairly easy on a gsr

just make sure you get angeled or bent feeler gauges, do not bend straight ones and use them.

www.c-speedracing.com for more information on valve adjusting including step by step.

This is a definate must. Also, the motor HAS to be cold for a valve adjustment to be done right. I had mine adjusted last time and the motor was still fairly warm. The Honda mechanic that did it said it's best to let the car sit overnight and do it in the morning so it is sure to be cold.

so how the heck do they manage to get it adjusted right when u bring it into the shop? they're not going to have it sit overnight for a $100 job. how long does it take? about an hour?

We pulled my valve cover off and put a big fun over the engine bay and let it run for about 2 hours before doing the adjustment. This Honda mechanic is probably the best in Charlotte and has been working on them since Hondas were first being imported into the US, so I respect his ability and judgement. He's been able to troubleshoot problems that other mechanics couldn't figure out. All I know that is if he said that the motor should be cold(or at least not hot), then there must be a good reason for it.

Not too difficult, but having a friend give you a hand makes it 500% easier.

Exactly what Honda does when they adjust your valves...When I had mine done for the 60k service my car was in and out fairly quick..I asked them how come it was so fast, there reply was what was quoted above..

There's a little screw that you move up and down to adjust spacing of your valves, then you hold that setting steady with a nut.

If your car was out fast, that most likely means they just popped off your valve cover and deemed that everything was within specs. Which is a little because those readings are not accurate when the car is warm.
