Default rotor question (not brakes)

How do I rotate the rotor so I can get to the screw? I think I have an idea but I'd rather hear from people that have done it before. If possible could you let me know exactly what tools I'll need. like what size socket or if I need a special tool. thanks.

sorry, I wrote this while I was going crazy at work. the rotor under the distributer cap. I can never get it to spin the right way. Also, is there any certain brand of cap and rotor I should be getting? I have been using the ones at pep-boys. Is that ok? Sorry about the confusing question. I'm a little tired.

crank the engine until you get the rotor screw facing up...then you'll be able to get to it...don't need to crank much
