Default Air Filter Question........

First of all, I have a 99 Integra GS.......

For those of you who replaced your stock filter with an aftermarket one, specifically K&N Filter, which one did you use? I know that K&N calls for part # E2427, but I have also read that part #2820 works as well. The lowest price I could find the E2427 for was about $65, while the lowest price for the RU2820 was about $35.

What is the difference between these filters? Will they both fit in the stock box? Does anyone have any experience with either, or both, of these filters?

If they both work, obviously I would like to go with the cheaper one, but I am also a little skeptical because I figure that it has to be cheaper for a reason.........

Any thoughts? Thanks

if i'm not mistaken with the part #s, the e2427 is a direct drop-in. the ru2820 needs to be modified (you have to tear apart the stock filter and attach its base to the ru2820 so that it will work).

That's exactly what I was looking for.......thanks I knew that there needed to be something different. Is it hard to do this adaptation? Other than that will the filters perform the same?

i didn't think the adaptation was too hard. but i can see how it could be a PITA for some people. there used to be a how-to somewhere..

but, if the e2427 had existed when i did my ru2820, i probably wouldn't have bothered with the modification.

i would expect both filters to perform pretty much the same.

In your opinion, is it worth saving $30 or should I just get the drop in?

well, do you think you can hack apart an air filter and fit, secure, and seal its base onto another filter?

I ended up getting the direct drop in filter (2427), but in case anyone was wondering, here is a link that I found that describes how to modify the other one……..
