Headlight Lenses Repair Question
My headlight lenses on my wife’s 99 Altima are real dull & cloudy. I thought about replacing them but now I see that there are some restoration kits available. Has anybody tried anything like this? Does it really work? Here’s a couple I was looking at: http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/3m-h...8-p-16386.aspx and http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/symt...0-p-16214.aspx
Thanks
Thanks
From what I've been reading about some of the lens restoring kits is a hit or miss. I believe 3M is the best so far, but you have to keep up on them every year or so. Might be less labor to just buy new ones from a reputatable company on Ebay. And sometimes the dulling is on the inside of the lens which means you have to take off the lens if it doesn't clear up with these kits.

I just got a buffing wheel attachment for a cordless drill and buffed it with rubbing compound. It helped but it took a very long time, and my lenses were not that bad to begin with. Either way, the buffing pad attachment is the way to go, but I would recommend using a corded drill.
I just bought a 3M restoration kit and used it on my lights. It attaches to a drill and you use 500, 800, and 3000 grit attachments to buff it, followed by rubbing compound on a sponge. My lights look brand new but I'm now worried about the lights yellowing from UV damage since you essentially sand away part of the headlight and re-finish it in order to get it looking new again.
