Default engine swap question...

I have a 95 rs and I am looking into building the motor.A friend from work has a motor that he blew the turbo or something like that.It is the same block but with a v-tech sir1 head or something like that. Some parts are missing or need to be replaced but the thing is he offered me a straight trade for my ls rims(painted black) and the rubber for the motor.Im working on finding someone to check out the block and head for problems, but I was wondering what you guys think?I was told that the head alone would up the hp around 50hp.True? Thanks for your time guys...

The SiR head will turn your car into an LsVtec and will add anywhere from 30-40 horsepower on a stock LS bottom end. It is not a simple procedure however, and certainly wouldn't recommend turboing aswell as using stock internals on an LsVtec. You would need an ECU as well, more than likely reprogrammed (jump from 1.6 litres to 1.8).
It is quite a common upgrade people have been doing for some time now. Just search for LsVtec on google or around on this board.

Thanx KangaRod,Im not sure if I ever will turbo or s-charge since I just want a daily driver that I don`t need to tune much.At the moment I would like to get to or break the 200hp and I was hoping this would help get to it.Is changing all internals required or just certain ones?Anyways thanks agian..

yea, the lsvtec is popular, but theres also the potential for problems or getting in over your head. The only reason that sounds better than doing a complete swap is because you can get the head for so cheap, but add up the prices of everything else you would need and see if it is worth it.... a complete swap would be less problematic....

not all internals. I would recommend some Integra Type R pistons. They would boost your compression and have the proper valvle releafs cut. I would also recommend strengthening the bottom end with some ARP rod bolts. I wouldn't go much stronger than that. I went overboard with shot peened and polished rods, arp rod bolts ,and a crank girlde, but I don't think it was necessary in hindsight. The 200 horsepower barrier would be super easy with all of the stuff done I've mentioned. If you rebuilt your bottom end (with all the things I mentioned) and VTEC water pump, vtec oil pump, and vtec timing belt, 200 horsepower would only be a set of Integra Type R cams, ITR intake manifold and DC 4-1 away. I dunno if you saw, but I live in Winnipeg, us canuckers gotta stick together... Drop me a a line (kanga_rod@hotmail.com)
PS GO LEAFS!
