Default d16 turbo ???s (also: ex engine/lx-dx auto tranny).....

ok, besides vtec, whats the differences between the ex and dx/lx engines?
Why can the ex handle 10psi, but the lx/dx blows on 6psi?
How much should the ex engine itself run?
is there any way to build up the lx engine to handle 6-10psi? Maybe ex piston/rods? (I rather not have vtec)

basiclly, how well do you think an automatic lx/dx tranny will hold up w/ a torque converter matched to an ex engine on 6-10psi? I know autos are weaker, but the lx/dx engine is geared awsome for FI, and auto would be suitable since you just punch it and don't let up. I know it sounds retarded, but it's a setup you don't often see, and it could end up saving me money. Plus, I have no problem getting a new tranny if the auto blows out (go ahead and swap to 5speed then).

and yes, I did search, but felt readdressing this was in reason.

With the auto tranny and it being a sohc it would be easier and faster to just swap trannies and to a b series. I've seen auto teg ls's only make about 180hp on 10 psi fully tuned.

I'm pretty sure it's cause the lx's and dx's have a few restrictions like a different intake manifold and possibly a smaller tb (i'm not sure) Either way if you tune it right i'm sure you can get a lx/dx motor to 10 pounds.

D-series throttle bodies are same size.

There goes the infamous "long gears are good for turbo" false perception. Long gears suck ass. I have an Ex and guess what? I am getting shorter gears. You're going to spit out your false perceptions and on what you 'hear' but I can guarantee that if you put my 'new' tranny versus EX vx DX ... the outcome my tranny > EX > DX

Longer gears give you a false perception of being quicker because it's easier to get traction. Shorter gears will always outaccelerate longer gears given no traction issues.

'Longer gears hold boost better' is bull$hit. Boost is built by engine load not speed.

I have good sources to back me up, do you?

The reason that dx's can't handle that much boost is it doesn't have a forged crank. also dx's suck to turbo (96+) because of the horizontal throtle body.

Wow, I didn't know. (Not that I've told people longer gears are better for turbo or anything) I've just been hearing the same thing here and there, especially on honda-tech.

Thanks for clearing that up.

You prolly just opened up a can of worms...but I agree with the shorter gears theory

isn't the dx throttle body vertical to the ground?
