Default VTEC. Listen for it. HEARD IT!!

Yeah today after getting on a local road coming off the highway, my g/f let her RSX-S rip. Full open throttle in 2nd gear, and boy did we hear and feel the I-Vtec kick in!!!:awais:

Has anyone else noticed such a change in tone and the feel like we did? I know the crossover was much more evident in the older VTEC's, but I though it was more subsided in the new ones. Hey, I am NOT complaining. That was a sweet experience.

To anyone who owns an RSX-S and is awaiting that certian "break-in" mileage point to come, boy are you in for a pleasant ride.

P.S. The car has almost 1600 miles on it. We hit 8k RPM, thats ok right?

The crossover is VERY noticeable. You can hit 8k the day the car is unloaded off the dock...Honda tests each and every car after they leave the assembly line to make sure they make advertised horsepower. That's right...they take that car and run it right up to redline with absolutely zero miles on it. That is how high the tolerances are on these engines.

Thats funny, cause believe it or not, her car came off the trailer with 0 miles. It had like .8 when she took delivery...

Is it possible they reset it? I don't think they would.. or you think so?

Anyway, needless to say, it was awesome!!

Redlined it right off the dealer lot, no looking back, 26000 miles plus on it. We've done this with every Honda/Acura that we have had, since buying our first new one in 1982. I do the same with all vehicles that I buy new. We had two GSR's before the RSXtypeS a 96 and a 99. No problems. We just trade in every 2.5 to 3 years or so. (leases) The VTEC is great especially when you put on an Intake. We regularly run the car up to 8100 RPM just below the overrev cutoff.

I've never seen a car with that few miles. So you figure they test drove it for structural kinks for about .5 miles, and it was driven .3 or so miles from the assembly plant to the truck to the dock to the truck to the dealership.

I don't know man? Maybe it wasn't .8 at delivery. But the salesman she bought it off of, is a good acquantance of mine, I've known him for a while. He attested to the fact that it had 0 miles on the odometer when he first looked at it. I dunno, weird.

No I'm starting to wonder, I HOPE Acura tested it...

It would've been Honda, since it was built in Japan. I've heard of cars with 0 miles on them, it's not too uncommon. I wouldn't get your panties in a wad over it :fawk:

BTW, what is the crossover point on the RSX-S?

It looked to me like between 5500-6000?

5800 RPM on the TypeS and 2200 on the base.

dude so let me get this. you dont have to break in a BRAND NEW car before you can rev it over 3k rpm??? cuz i heard from a lot of people that you shouldnt push it like the first 2-3k miles.
