Default Turbo on D series civic (SOHC) and Automatic tranny

I want to know what is all involved in making this automatic a reliable car, if I turbo it. I know what I need to do with the turbo and stuff, but what about the auto tranny. I am looking at a Greddy kit for about 1600 and want to know if I am going to run into problems with the Auto.

try not to push more than 50hp over stock with the auto tranny. and make sure you get an intercooler for added protection for your engine. most people will say that you dont need one if you're only running 6 psi but hey if it helps it run cooler, what the hell right? and make sure you change your tranny fluid before you run the car with the turbo. i've seen a couple turbo auto d16s and they seem to hold their own. good luck.

Thanks, again. I may swap out the auto, or build it up somewhat, if I can get a deal on the labor or something. The kid with the DSM engine in the civic might try to hook me up. I also might have the SOHC engine built up a bit and see what happens. But thanks for the info.

i would save your money and buy a manual car. but if you want to do it, then do it. dont do a auto to manual swap, costs to much and usually problems cause they're not done right.

That's what I would do,,,,,I have a 6 gen auto, and gave up to mess up with the engine.....IMO , it is not worth $$$....I even tried to get a B18C with Auto (it is exist in Japan), but it cost too much...
be wise from the beginning...

just my $0.02

barto..... the good thing about the auto tranny for daily driving if you are going to turbo is that you wont have as much turbo lag since when you accelerate you never have to take your foot off the gas and the car just keeps accelerating..... for that aspect its better, I have no clue how the D series auto trans hold up with forced induction but if you dont run much over 6psi you should be ok..... also, how much would a manual conversion be for your car, cause I know the tranny itself shouldnt cost too much for the D series motor, but the labor would be pricey, it would be something to consider, even if you get the turbo you could keep it on the side for a while til you decide exactly which way you want it..... I know its hard to do lol when you get the turbo youll want it on right away........

Well, I am thinking that the D series will hold up just fine, but the problem that I have read, comes with the no turbo lag. This is so, because you are stressing your tranny with the extra hp. But I have read that the D series is a up to the challange, and if not, I can get another d series, auto or stick for about 500 bucks. The swap is really not all that hard, that is as far as I have been told, some of my friends have done them and said it was fairly easy a one day job. So I will have to see. Hope I can get this going cuz I have see instances where 6psi can add about 35% more hp to the car. I was thinkning that was high, but who knows.

Thanks all for the help, it is greatly apreciated.
