Default Factory Rev Limiter

Can someone please help me. Is there anyway to get rid of the factory rev limiter or reprogram it. Because i install a new cam and it says it will run up it 7200rpm and my rev limiter kicks in at about 6200rpm and im losing 1000 rpm. The cam wants to keep going but the damn rev limiter keeps kicking in. If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

Just because your car revs to 7200 does NOT mean it would be worthwhile to do it. If you've ever seen a dyno, especially on a non-VTEC engine, power dips off in the upper RPMs very, very quickly. Revving to 7200 in a J30 (I assume thats what you speak of) would do no good unless you're making power up there (which you are not doing unless you have an aftermarket ECU).

isnt it "not" good for a f22 to rev it past the redline? The engine is plainly not built for performance, its a friggin family car!! Not a celica/prelude/mustang which are BUILT for higher performance!

Now a h22 would be different!

Ihave a 97 accord ex 5speed> And for the cam its a bullfrog(gude) cam. Im planning on doing a H22 swap in the future but for the time being i need the rev limiter kick up or deleted

i dont think JUST changing out the camshaft would protect the engine better at higher rpms, but thats my $0.2

how would he be trying to protect the engine?

He's trying to raise the rev limit, in the process of making it go to higher revs, that's not protecting the engine.

I don't think that was the question, the question which was changing the factory REV Limit.

The only way to go about this, is getting your ECU chipped. Have fun.

you realize you do run a very real risk of completely blowing your otherwise unworked motor. I know your motor ain't worked cuz if you had taken the time to get lighter pistons, rods, balancing of everything, new valve springs and whatever else it takes to successfully/safe make a motor rev higher you would not be asking this simple question about how to get rid of the rev limiter.

so unless you plan on throwing a rod..........hold off on getting the higher redline.
