Default Help on an old Accord

Ok, I would appreciate any help I can get. I hve a 1988 Honda Accord LXi and it has been sitting up for a couple of years. Now, due to Honda quality I guess, after putting a new battery on it and cleaning it up a little bit, it started right up, no problem whatsoever. Now, what I do have a problem with is the back tail lights, they constantly stay on. Even when the car is off, as soon as you hook the battery to it, they come on and stay on. It is all the lights in the back and the brake light thing in the back window also. I am just wondering if there could be any certain thing wrong with it or if it might just be a short somewhere and will have to bring it to a shop to find out where at exactly. Also, can anyone tell me how to get the front passenger side door open because my handle broke off on the outside and the one on the inside evidentally came loose somehow and now I can't get the door open. Any help is appreciated.

Unhook the battery for about 5 minutes then put it back on it should reset things.. If not I'd try replacing the fuses. Those are all cheap suggestions.. If not get a Haynes Manual $20 and look for a relay that could be bad..

Try the local junk yard for the broken parts to your lock
Yeah, I had planned on going around for the parts for the lock. I am just trying to figure out how to get the door open right now. I took the inside handle off and was trying to pull the bar it is connected to on the inside to release it but I never could get it to come undone. Oh well though, I will see what I can do. I was looking at some of the fuses and they look like the weather has gotten to them a little bit and I figured I would have to change them. I suspect it may be that also because before we let it set up, it never had that problem with it. So, they had about two years total to get all kinds of stuff on them. Thanks and I will let ya'll know what turns out to be the problem with it.

is there a switch on the break that turns on the lights? i know they are on some cars, and i know the lights will go on if the car is off and you press the breaks.. so maybe that switch is stuck..

i saw it on a '83 chevy.. so i could be wrong

Thanks man, it was as simple as that. I got down at the brake pedal and was looking, evidentally a little stopper or something had come off and instead of having something to push the button in to take off the light, it had a hole where it was supposed to go and so nothing was pushing down on it at all. Your help is much appreciated.

Also, thanks to everybody else too.

searched the forums (as i have a 86 accord lxi and the tail lights wont turn off) and found this thread its been a great help, but i have a couple of questions 1. what is and or where is the little stopper he is talking about and would it apply to a 86 accord his was a 88. 2. can you tell if a fuse is blown with out taking it out of the fuse box and any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. the car has been running great for the last year and this just happened out of the blue today thanks

They sell fuse testers really cheap at auto part stores, and they bring a bunch of extra fuses. You test them, if they are bad, the tester has on the other end something to help pull them out easy, and you'll have the replacements for it.
