rsx-s or prelude?
Hey guys, i've been coasting around on this forum to try to learn about the rsx-s....now i'm truly considering trading my 96 accord for a 01 or 02 rsx-s used of course. Is there any major difference in the two years? I havent found a used 01 type-s yet so i'm hesitant to even say they made them that year. Please let me know all the details that i should know when buying this car. I wanna make sure that my 20k is well spent.
I also want to get an rsx over a 00 or 01 prelude....please let me know of the advantages and disadvantages in that contest. I"m thinkin the rsx is alot lighter than th prelude. and better handling.
thanx guys!
Dave

The only 01 RSX's are in ASIA I think. The car was introduced in North America on 11 July 01 as an 2002 Model.

RSX all the way. Its faster, handles better, is lighter, and makes HP a lot easier than a lude does. You can get 240hp out of an RSX type S from an SRI, exhaust, reflash the ecu, and a header. Good luck getting that out of a Lude.
Ohh, and a Lude weights like 3300lbs or more i think, a RSX weights just under 2900lbs. Just food for thought

Prelude SH curb weight is at ~2970lbs. Not that much over the Type S, which is around ~2750 or so. The rsx-s has a slight performance advantage over the lude but not too much. For the price of a used Rsx-s, you could buy a used lude for 2-4k less. Use that money to boost the h22 and you'd be happy. Or you could go the all motor route and do the I/H/E, testpipe and a set of cams and still be spanking Rsx-s.
Ummm show me a dyno plot please. Although i do agree with that stock the RSX handles better. Not that im an RSX hater, shoot i have one myself. Its just that he's asking for advice and its seems like your a bit biased towards the acura. And unless you have facts or have ever driven one/workked on one you would know that its not as overweight/heavy as most people think. With some simple mods the lude can be in the 14's easily.

yes boosting the H22 is a simple way, bigger engine with some boost , who else can't do ?
my car dynoed at a peak 190 whp with AEM SRI, 5Zigen exhaust and Hondata ECU. now I am getting 4-2-1 header and also putting on CAI and intake gasket, expecting it to go 195-200 whp. now if you calculate back to hp at flywheel, that's about 235 hp.
depends on which area you are heading, can't really say which car is easier to mod you know?
ok..just read all u guys' posts and thanx for them.
i see the weight difference..i kinda knew there would be one.
i know the prelude comes with 5speed.....and i know the rsx-s comes with a 6 speed. which one is better? i'm assuming the 6 speed offers better gear ratio's, but from experienced drivers..which would u prefer? Anybody here wish the 5 speed from the prelude would be in their rsx-s?
also the engines are rated 200hp each. Which one is better fit for future mods? I know alot of h22 turbo's are out cuz the engine has been around for a while..while the k20(i think thats the engine), has just hit the streets(i believe).
thanx for all the help guyz!

If you compare curb weight vs curb weight the RSX weighs a little less. But it also puts more power to the ground in stock form the RSX makes almost 10hp more than the Prelude but 10-12ft lbs of tq less. I have seen a stock type s beat a 99/00 lude with an AEM SRI if that gives you any reference. I would say TYPE S, it has more raw potential than just about any Honda/Acura ever made.

again, there isn't an absolute answer for which one is better to mod.
if you are looking into FI - Force induction like turbo or supercharge, a larger displacement with less compression is better. (H22) -- making more hp out of it and at the mean time retain durability
if you are looking for NA - Natural aspiration tuning, then light engine making more horse power with higher revving ability is better. Here for sure you know it'd be RSX type-S engine K20A2.
One fact is that the new DC5 type-R's K20A is even lighter than DC2 type-R's B18C. Therefore it might be safe to assume our K20A2 is lighter than B18C, though I don't know for sure.
