College survey regarding engine swaps [CA-directed, but chime in if you want]
Hey guys, I haven't been active on H-A for a long time, but I need your opinions on something.
I'm in a Technical Writing class at Cal Poly SLO, and right now I'm working on a group project that is looking to rewrite the BAR/EPA regulations regarding JDM engine swaps.
From what I've read on forums over the past few years, it looks like JDM engines have no trouble passing the sniffer tests, but just fail on the visual.
So the question is, if there was no visual inspection, or JDM engines were given a "Visual OK", would you be more likely to swap in the engine? (Providing it still passes smog)
Thanks for your help,

I don't think the visual test is hard to pass. My car passed the visual inspection with no problem. I have a JDM B18C in my car. It took me 3 tries to pass the emissions test. So I think taking the visual inspection away would not help people do engine swaps more. I really don't think the referee stations look too much into the visual inspection.
