Default PM6 Tuning

I'm doing an N/A buildup for a D16A6. I would like some input about tuning after the motor is all together. Would a SECU from ZDyne be overkill for an N/A project? Or would the stock ECU be able to adjust?

Work being done to the motor is forged rods and pistons, headporting and port matching, and a stronger valvetrain with a custom cam grind to give just a little more lift and duration. Figured that info would help with any analysis.

with any internal work, especially with the addition of bigger cams, needs to be tuned. running on a stock ecu is asking for kaboom.

I have friends that have years of experience on race teams and building race motors. My buddy, that I'm doing the porting with, talked me into staying with a D16. He proclaims the stock D16 can be 'woke-up' so to speak. One of my goals is to keep the handling, and by keeping the lighter D16 I won't comprimise the handling.

I'm not building a drag car by any means, and I'm not looking to produce impressive power numbers that can't be kept on the pavement. My goals are to keep handling and producing useable power/torque. I'd like to start AutoX in the near future and this is what I'll be using.

So...does that answer why?

Oh, thanks for your input Snoops. Your contributions are appreciated. You may be the only gal here who knows what she's talking about when it comes to cars.

Sounds futile, but good luck.

Would it be possible to do an OBD0-OBD1 conversion and run a pgmfi rom editor?

i'd imagine the best idea would be to find the SOHC vtec head and then port it out, at least that way you might find a slightly more agressive cam while being able to run it on the street.

maybe.

In case the intention wasn't clear, the idea is to 'visually' look stock under the hood. We're attempting to keep this as simple as possible.

Yeah, well...I'm looking forward to seeing what these guys say they can do with the D16, and have a little fun with the process.

I don't have a clue about the OBD0-OBD1 conversion idea. I may just try a Z-Dyne SECU in the end, since I'm going to have to properly tune this project.

you won't see much of any improvement over stock-- at least i wouldn't suspect.

at least nothing to scream about. i can understand the idea of learning things, but putting all this money in for what you are getting out of it seems foolish.

but whatever floats your boat

If you aren't sharing feedback based on real life experience(not internet research), then you can keep your mouth shut.

Negative people aren't welcome here.
