Default Clutch bearing going?

Whenever I turn my radio off and put down my window, I can hear a slight whirring noise, however whenever I depress my clutch pedal it goes away. Is that the pilot or release bearing going? And if so, should I just change the whole clutch out? It is well used, and probably could use the change - but if I do change it out what clutch should I go with? This car is just a daily driver, other than perhaps one burn out a month, it only gets minor spirited driving.

sounds like a common symptom of the throw out bearing. If you do it, get a kit(clutch, TO bearing, pilot bearing, pressure plate) and do the whole thing. Don't forget to have your flywheel resurfaced. Exedy seems to be popular for a stock replacement and kits can be had for under 100.

might as well just replace the whole clutch. Go with an Exedy OEM replacement or Exedy stage 1

Thanks, I was thinking of going with the Exedy OEM replacement, it is really all I need, never even thought about the flywheel resurfacing. But now that you mention it I'll get that done too - thanks again.

Yeah, my 99 SI is giving me problems as well. I bought the car with an ACT Clutch and flywheel. I've just started to notice my clutch going out, or atleast I think it's the clutch. Symptoms are: Hard to put into gear, grinding in third, not very smooth at all. Should I ditch ACT or replace it with another one?

Okay, so im looking at ACT Clutch kits and I have a few questions. There is one kit that uses the 6 Pad Race Disk, then there is another kit that says it's the performance organic street disk. Which one is better to have? My SI is my daily driver/street racing car. Also, what is the difference between a heavy duty pressure plate compared to the Xtreme Pressure Plate? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Here is the website to where I'm getting this info.

Thanks for your help guys!

Prolly aint gonna make 1 bit of difference between the two in your stock SI...I would go with the cheaper one....and if your clutch is goin out and its only a 99 then i would just stick with the stock clutch for now until you do some upgrades....Where in Indiana you from?

My almost freshly installed ACT HDSS has the throwout bearing squeaking already.
