Need engine suggestions...
Hey, all! I'm a bit new to HAN, so please bear with me
Okay, I know this is a little ways off, but I want plenty of time to explore my options. Right now I have a 94 civic 2dr with the d16z6. The guy who had it before had driven it hard, and it's got close to 200k miles on it. The tranny, also, is bad. Synchronizer rings in 3rd have gone out, so I'm looking to replace both. About a year from now I plan on sinking about 7500 bucks into my baby, including body kit, new paint, new wheels, and some interior mods. I'm hoping to set back 2500 to 3000 for a motor. I was thinking about a b16a2-simple mod, not a lot of extra money to make 170 hp. My other thought was to buy a new d16 and turbo it. Get more hp for not much difference in cash, but more labor(me being a girl, I just know what I want, not how to put it on...lol) But I am curious about the H22's. They make 200hp. If they have so much more power, how come I never hear about them that much? Are they not worth it? They're about the same price as a b16, maybe even a hair cheaper, so why spend butt-loads more on a motor with less hp? Anyways, let me know what you think! Thanks guys!

it's alot of money and not worth it if you put in a h22. the motor is just too heavy making horrable to drive and too much money when a gsr can put out the same amount of power when tune correctly. i would say go non vtec with turbo . b16 have too high of a compression and not that much power . don't get it. i would get a b18 . cheap motor . ($400-600) and a turbo kit for about 1500. that's reallie cheap for the amount of power you are getting + this motor is made for turbo and is going to last you a while if you tune it. life span is from 2 years to 5 years ave. im me if anything

you will make the same if not a little more power with a b16a turbo vs the b18b turbo. The b16a can actually handle a little more power then the b18b.....both can easily make 300whp, but the b16 can be safely pushed past 300whp ...upwards of 350whp....(same goes for the b18c)......
The compression of the b16a if fine, actually IMO it's great for a boosted street set-up running moderate boost (10-12psi)........
slg32682, how much power are you looking to make and how much are you willing to spend? You can pick up another d16 swap for under $500 (engine tranny,ecu,etc)....spend another $1,500 or so and you can be in the ballpark of about 230whp and 200+ft lbs of tq........
Or a b18b will set you back about $1,000 for the swap and the b16 will set you back about $1,500 for the swap....all of which drop rite in.....
The h22a requires a mount kit ($500) and some custom fabrication.......thats why most don't go that route, in the end your better off spending a tad more (initially) to get the b18c1.....plus if you ever decide to boost your engine the b-series will make more safer power then the h22. The h22 has weak ringlands that are not very forgiving...........
I say forget the kit, paint, interior and go with a K24
If thats a bit too much for you, you'll probably be happier with either a d16z6 turbo or an H22 over the B16 as a street car. Both options will give you a much meatier powerband.

Thanx for the advice, guys. To help you out a little bit more, I'm using this car as a daily driver(for now), so I don't want to compromise fuel efficiency too much. The reason I was looking at the h22 is because it has a lot of power bone stock. Me being new(not too new) to to the tuner world, I don't know a whole lot about managing boost and all that, so if I do go that route, I want it to be something simple, but that has potential as I gain some experience and knowledge. Hope that helps everyone, and thanks again!
Long block is the whole motor, shortblock is just the engine it self, no extra compnents like tranny, dizzy, clutch, starter. As for the H22 being too heavy...why do people still think that? If I could do it all over again I'd go H22.
