when does D16Y8 SOHC VTEC engages its VTEC? my redline is 6800.

well my friend has that engien and his kicks into v-tec at 5200 rpms

 

It should be about 4800, but im not 100% sure on that. I also have a z6 and that might be a little different...

 

i dont hear vtec till like 5600 deff not 4800

 

you don't "hear" vtec. you "hear" the butterfly valves (secondaries) opening. primaries open way before that. D16z6 is near the same as the D16Y8 at 4800 RPM's with secondaries at 5200 RPMS

Well, before i asked i just made a VTEC Light to be sure because i got a lot of diffrent responses. I have a d16z6 and my VTEC kicks in at 4800 RPMs. I made a vtec light for my buddy that had a y8 and his went in at 5500 RPMs.

 

i wouldn't spend the money on a VAFC, i would just spend the money towards a hondata s200 w/o boost for maybe $275 and get it tuned to perfection, then you never have to worry about it again. Having a vtec controller does nothing, because you want your engine tuned so when your lower cams stop making power, then the butterfly valves open up and higher cams take over. You want the perfect interchange which can really only be done with good quality tuning !!! good luck

 

i think that the only butterfly is on the throttle body and opens with the gas pedal not with vtec

and like i said the vtec on a y8 is 5500-5600
