2005 accord lx tranny knocking noise?!?
I recently bought a 2005 accord LX I4.. Here's the deal about 2 weeks after purchasing the car i noticed a knock when shifting from drive to reverse.. its an immediate knock.. and from reverse to drive it has a slight delay.. you go into drive and about 3 seconds later you hear a loud click from the front end.. i thought it might have a transmission problem.. so i take it back to the dealer i bought the car from.. and they say i have to leave it with them during the week so they can speak to their "tech line" about it.. what a crock of bullshit..
Anyway i leave the car with them for a few days.. and they change the Linear solenoid.. They tell me its fixed.. i pick it up and still have the same problem.. so this time i talk to the service manager and leave the car with them for a week.. They actually changed the transmission (So they say) i really cant tell because everyting looks brand new anyway..
Still have the same problem.. so now i talk to the shop foreman who has supposedly been working on hondas for over 20 years.. and he tells me that this is completely normal.. its just the gears meshing..
This sounds like more then a mesh to me.. when going from drive to reverse its an immediate bang sort of.. and from reverse to drive its a delayed click..
Anyway.. i need some help here.. Anyone with a semi new honda do you hear any noise coming from the front end when shifting?? i really doubt this is normal because i didnt notice any noise for the first two weeks of driving it..
Im considering hireing a lawyer to file a lemon law suit against these people
you know some sort of noise coming from tranny shifting might be normal on something 10-20 years old but something brand new?! i cant believe that

Every Honda I've ever been in has had a somewhat noisy reverse engagement. I can't tell whether or not you're exaggerating with your 3 second thing.
Try going to a different dealer or calling the service zone rep.

Hey man, I bought my 05 Accord Sedan Value Pkg like 2 months ago and have noticed that from day 1. I think it's just like that, dont think there's a problem, however, if one comes up, it's under warranty, so no point having your car stuck at the dealer for weeks because of a tiny clicking noise.
Ok i used my digital camera to take a clip of this noise to see if this is what you guys have.. take a look the file is about 7.5 megs to download and you can hear the noise as the car is shifted from drive to reverse..

I saw the vid, I have a '05 lx auto, same noise. I've also had a '98 accord Lx auto with the same reverse noise.
You should test the noise on other new Accords on a dealer lot. I don't worry about it because it's common noise on all accords.

You have the same noise as mine when going into reverse AND drive?
Dont you think this clunking noise is cause for concern.. i mean we paid good money for these cars and the transmission is basically Banging into gear.. which is going to cause more wear i would assume because of the slamming constantly.. wouldnt you agree. not for nothing but this is the first car ive ever heard about where its normal for the transmission to clunk into gear like that.. i've still contacted american honda about this and im going to be meeting with the regional rep.. maybe if enough people were to complain they would correct this banging.. its really obsurd to pay monthly payments for a brand new car to have issues like this
And not for nothing but i did a google search on Accord transmission problems and its amazing the number of results i got on it.. i realize all cars have their problems after a while but i must have read through about 50 pages where people were complaining about being on their third and fourth transmissions with these cars and not even having 50-60k miles on it

we have a 05 accord hybrid with 8k miles. there is a noise from the front end that is definitely transmission related. i have not addressed yet with the dealership. however i did have to replace the front and rear rotors due to pedal bounce.
I could not clearly hear the noise on your video so I am not going to comment on it.
However, I will repeat that I have 05 LX Auto and that I have a clunking noise when shifting into reverse from park or drive. I do not have the noise when shifting into drive. I believe this to be normal.
I also had 2002 Camry LE Auto which had the same noise when shifting into park. A friend of mine is a Toyota mechanic (at dealership) and we drove few other Camries with the same noise.
I would not be concerned - but if you are, and for your own safety and piece of mind, the best is to take the car to the dealer and check with them. Very likely they will tell you it is normal. Then take the car to another dealer and compare notes.
Again, I think it is a normal operating noise.
As for trannies dying out at 60k - mass production's side effect. However, I do believe (and hope) that Honda would replace tranny if it dies out at 60k.
