Default £5 performance chip from eBay - opinions please!

Hi All,

I'm new here so hello

I have bought a performance chip of ebay for my 99 1.8 Accord SE (UK). Twas only £5 and claims to fool the ECU etc etc (see here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=7948249974)

I just wanted to know what people experiences were with these things. It seem too good to be true IMHO. I don't want to cane my engine unnecessarily so what's the beef folks?

-Greg

They are garbage. It will make your car run worse than before. The program it contains is only for highly modified cars. Save yourself the heartache by throwing the chip on the ground, smashing it with your boot, and call it a day.

That's not a chip, it's a five cent (two pence?) resistor. You just wasted five pounds.

Well thanks for the response.

Now the damn thing has arrived I realise, as Kai correctly tells us, that it aint no damn chip but a resistor. Hmmm <strokes imaginary beard> Missale of goods act... I will take your advice and ceromonially burn the thing. I am happy wasting £5 given that I haven't nailed my nice shiny VTEC!!!

Next question: can anyone recommend a *real* mod chip?? I would really like to be able to plug my laptop into my engine and 'tinker' myself. Any thoughts?

Yeah. You should also have a good reason to be tuning your engine too. Like upgraded fueling due to FI or built engine. It probably wouldn't hurt but there are better ways I can think of spending about $1500 when my setup doesn't even need it.
