Default compression test results

ok so i did a compression test on my b16 because it started to smoke heavily and there is oil in my exhaust. the first time through i got 220, 211, 216, and 205 on cylinders 1-4, respectively. i went back and retested the #1 and got 196 this time, so i tested again and still got 196. i poured a little oil in and retested and it was 225. does this mean i have bad rings on that cylinder? the engine was warm when i tested.

That does sound like a ring problem. The numbers don't look bad enough to conclude that is the problem though.

according to ALLdata that I have at work, anything over 190 is acceptable for a dry compression test. The numbers will always be better during a wet test, even if you have brand new rings because the oil with seal it that much better. I would also try a leak down test if you have access to the equipment.

it has nothing to do with peak numbers it has to do with how close the numbers are to each other. IMO cylinder 4 is shot

You mean cylinder 1. I agree. The rings look fine in every other cylinder though.

220, 211, 216, and 205

that would be cylinder 4 and if 1 dropped to 196 that may also be junk. make sure you hold the gas pedal at full throttle when you do the tests

:slap: the car isnt running when you do a compression test. you are just supposed to have the throttle all the way open when cranking to get accurate readings. h:
