I've got a 93 acura vigor and lately it has been shifting differently. It doesnt exactly slip but it just shifts from 1st to 2nd and back to 1st at odd times. And when im in 4th, it seems like it wont go past 5000 rpms (redline at 6800). I changed my tran fluid and that didnt seem to help any... should i maybe start looking at a rebuild or might it be something else like i just need to adjust the valves?? im kinda clueless right now so any help will be nice- thanks
It's probably engine-related. A friend of mine recently was having the same shifting problems in his 93 Buick, and it turned out that the engine needed quite a bit of tune-up work, including two new transformers for the distributor-less ignition system.
If you haven't done a tune-up recently, replace all the usual stuff...spark plugs, plug wires, cap/rotor (or related spark timing components, depending on what your car has), and possibly the air filter. Also, check the timing with a timing light, that could also be causing power loss if it's off.
