Tranny fluid

How much automatic transmission fluid does a '97 CL take? This mechanic told my friend 17 and I'm guessing he meant quarts and that seems HUGE! I'm not too familiar with automatic trannies so I wouldn't know. Anyone? Thanks.

the 3.0 Automatic (only tranny available) tranny uses 3.1quarts to change, and 7.6 quarts total.

the 2.2 Automatic tranny uses 3.4 quarts to change and 6.3 total.
