Default Need header to muffler exhaust

I'm really getting into autocrossing and I need to squeeze more power from my little d15b7. I'm looking for an inexpensive 4-2-1 header, a new cat, and muffler. I'm going to a muffler shop for the exhaust piping and cat install so I just need to buy the muffler. I'm looking at maybe a 5Zigen or Skunk2 muffler.

Well...if you need a header to muffler exhaust (otherwise known as catback) then i would suggest tanabe hyper medallion or apex i WS/N1. But...since you are going to the muffler shop to get the cat/header put on, what you really need is just an AXLE back exhaust or just a muffler. I'm kind of in the same situation, my tanabe muffler which is about 4 yrs old finally died but the piping is still good. The only axle back system that was half decent i found was the 5zigen fireball. Another choice is to get a apex N1 muffler and weld it on to the piping, i'm probably gonna just weld a turbo Apex N1 muffler onto my tanabe piping.....good luck!

the turbo exhaust is big. my friend got it by mistake, and if i'm correct, the inlet it between 2.5: to 3". but the n1 is a good muffler.

uh oh....do you think i should just get the n/a one then? I want to make sure it will clear the cutout in my bumper...my tanabe rattled a bit and it got kind of annoying. BTW i'm going SOHC turbo in a week or so and i'm spraying a 55 shot right now...just wondering if i really need the turbo model since i'm FI but then again my piping is from my tanabe g power catback and i think it's only 2.25 or 2.5....i can't remember

i have the 2 1/2 inch piping n1 on my EX, planning turbo eventually, but as it is right now, that exhaust with stock header and cat added 5+ mph and dropped .5 sec on my QM time. i'm guessing its the combo. i think if i had the header and a free flow cat, it would lose performance due to the lack of back pressure.

on a honda, there is no need to get a 'free flowing' cat. stock they are already straight through design and very efficient.

backpressure is good

Yeah but I think my stock cat is messed up. Plus it's got 93k miles on it and is 8 years old. Maybe I'll just get the muffler w/exhuast and see what happens.
